Ship is on a 210-acre campus in a rural setting in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. There are many activities and organizations for Ship students to participate in – band, chorus, theater groups, a campus newspaper, a radio station and more.
Ship also has fraternities and sororities.
Ship has a thriving Activities Program Board. In fact, more students participate in Activities Program Board than any other on-campus activity.
Other popular student organizations at Ship include Red Raider Marching Band, Student Veterans of America, Animal Alliance and Concert Band and Woodwind Ensemble.
Ship students' favorite campus traditions are Homecoming, Parent/Family Day and Spring Fest.
Ship offers housing. Students are required to live on campus through sophomore year. First year students are guaranteed on-campus housing.
Most Ship students live off campus. In 2021, 32% of undergrads at Ship lived in some kind of on-campus housing and 68% of students lived off-campus or commuted to Ship. There are 2,549 spots available in on-campus housing for all 5,324 undergraduates. In the 2020-21 school year, 1,689 students chose to live on-campus. On the weekends, about 50% students stay on-campus. First year students are allowed to park a car on campus.

Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania is patroled 24 hours a day by trained security. The Ship campus has emergency telephones or alarms for students to use anytime of day or night.
Ship offers late-night transportation or safety escorts for students. Campus housing is secure and dorms can only be accessed with secure key cards.
Additionally, Ship has surveillance cameras in certain parking lots and buildings; foot, vehicular and bicycle patrols by security officers.
