WPI is known as a global leader in project-based learning. As part of WPI’s academic approach, students learn in the classroom and apply that knowledge to real projects large and small. Beginning in the first year, projects are a big part of WPI’s student-centered curriculum. In the four seven-week terms of each academic year, students complete intensive work in many disciplines. WPI so strongly believes in the broader perspective gained from a global experience that it offers each incoming first-year student an up to $5,000 Global Scholarship to remove financial barriers to off-campus project work at one of our 50+ global project centers. Whether a major capstone project or a humanities project, required project work allows students opportunities to work with communities and sponsors on real projects where their work has purpose and may have immediate impact. Many students call these project experiences life-changing.
