WPI is known as a global leader in project-based learning. As part of WPI’s academic approach, students learn in the classroom and apply that knowledge to real projects large and small. Beginning in the first year, projects are a big part of WPI’s student-centered curriculum. In the four seven-week terms of each academic year, students complete intensive work in many disciplines. WPI so strongly believes in the broader perspective gained from a global experience that it offers each incoming first-year student an up to $5,000 Global Scholarship to remove financial barriers to off-campus project work at one of our 50+ global project centers. Whether a major capstone project or a humanities project, required project work allows students opportunities to work with communities and sponsors on real projects where their work has purpose and may have immediate impact. Many students call these project experiences life-changing.

Different people have different ideas about what makes a "good" school. Acceptance rate and average GPA are good indicators of how selective an institution is, but they don't say much about the quality of the education or the student experience. There are a few statistics that can give you a good idea of how satisfied students are and how well a school supports its students.
Retention, graduation, and job placement statistics all give valuable information about the quality of the student experience, before and after graduation.
About 95% of students who start at WPI return for their second year of college. Out of the 1,054 students who started at WPI as first-time freshman, 856 graduate within four years.
Around 89% of students who started at WPI earn their Bachelor's degrees within six years. Compare this to the average six-year graduation rate for colleges and universities in the U.S., which is around 61% for public schools and 67% for private.
Job placement rates after graduation, average starting salaries, and the debt students graduate with can all give important clues about the value of a degree from a specific school. Within six months of graduating, 59 percent of graduates receive at least one full-time job offer.
Recent grads have an average starting salary of $72,951 a year.
