UIC Academics

University of Illinois at Chicago requires at least 120 semester hours to graduate with a bachelor's degree. If students would like to graduate in less time than normal, they can choose the accelerated degree program. Around 63% of students who started college at UIC finish the requirements for graduation within six years. UIC offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

What Classes Are Required at UIC?

UIC has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students do not need to fulfull a language requirement , but there is a math and science requirement. Students do not have to take a computer class.

Majors at UIC

When choosing a major, UIC students have several choices to make. Scroll down to see a full list of majors offered at UIC below. Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Double majoring may require more work but it can provide an interesting mix of experience that helps students stand out when looking for a job or applying to a graduate program.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. UIC does not require a senior project for all students.

Does UIC Offer Learning Disability Services?

UIC offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does UIC Offer Online Classes?

UIC has distance learning options for students who are interested in taking classes online.

Does UIC Offer Credit for AP Classes?

UIC offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does UIC Have An Honor's Program?

UIC offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, and offers a Freshman Honors College. The Freshman Honors college provides a rich curriculum for highly-motivated first-year students.

Does UIC Require Internships?

UIC does not require an internship for all students Students can still look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.
