Towson University Student Life

Towson University is on a 329-acre campus in a suburban setting in Towson, Maryland, not far from Baltimore and Washington and DC. Towson University has many clubs, organizations, and activities for students to participate in – band, chorus, theater groups, a campus newspaper, a radio station and more.

Towson University also has fraternities and sororities.

Towson University has a thriving University Residence Government. In fact, more students participate in University Residence Government than any other on-campus activity.

Other popular student organizations at Towson University include Latin American Student Organization, Black Student Union, Hillel and African Diaspora Club.

Towson University students' favorite campus traditions are Tiger Fest (spring festival), Homecoming Weekend and Summer Orientation.

Towson University Housing

Towson University offers housing. Students are not required to live on campus First year students are guaranteed on-campus housing.

The majority of Towson University students live on campus. In 2021, 6% of undergrads at Towson University lived in some kind of on-campus housing and 93% of students lived off-campus or commuted to Towson University. There are 5,529 spots available in on-campus housing for all 18,730 undergraduates. In the 2020-21 school year, 1,116 students chose to live in campus housing. First year students are not allowed to park a car on campus.

Towson University offers coed housing and housing for students with disabilities.

Towson University Athletics

At Towson University there are a variety of athletic options for students interested in joining a sports program.

Intercollegiate sports are the highest tier of college sports and can be very competitive. Intercollegiate teams are regulated by the NCAA, funded by the university, and compete against teams from other universities. The division of a sports team depends on the size of the unversity, funding, and compention level. An intercollegiate school team will be Division I, II or III, with Division I being the highest level.

Club sports are not regulated by the NCAA and are a great option for students not interested in trying out for an intercollegiate team. Club sports are usually student run but can also be funded by the university.

Intramural sports are the most casual and informal. Intramural sports are often free and require very little time commitment.
