MECC is in a rural setting in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. MECC has many clubs, organizations, and activities for students to participate in – theater groups, , and more.
MECC does not have fraternities or sororities.
MECC has a thriving Phi Theta Kappa. In fact, more students participate in Phi Theta Kappa than any other on-campus activity.
Other popular student organizations at MECC include Healing Hands, Rho Nu (SNAV), Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Merits.
MECC students' favorite campus traditions are Spring Fling, Home Crafts Day and Pro-Art.
MECC does not offer housing.

Mountain Empire Community College is patroled 24 hours a day by trained security. The MECC campus has emergency telephones or alarms for students to use anytime of day or night.
