Iona College Student Life

Iona College is on a 35-acre campus in a suburban setting in New Rochelle, New York, not far from New York City. There are many activities and organizations for Iona College students to participate in – chorus, theater groups, a campus newspaper, a radio station and more.

Iona College also has fraternities and sororities.

Iona College has a thriving Student Government Association. In fact, more students participate in Student Government Association than any other on-campus activity.

Other popular student organizations at Iona College include Gaels Activities Board, Council for Greek Governance, Student Leader Alliance for Multiculturalism and The Ionian - Student Newspaper.

The Iona College community comes together each year for Involvement Fair/Club Day Activities, Homecoming and Spring Weekend.

Does Iona College Offer Student Housing?

Iona College offers housing. Students are not required to live on campus First year students are guaranteed on-campus housing.

Most Iona College students live off campus. In 2021, 30% of undergrads at Iona College lived in some kind of on-campus housing and 70% of students lived off-campus or commuted to Iona College. There are 1,575 spots available in on-campus housing for all 2,959 undergraduates. In the 2020-21 school year, 961 students chose to live in campus housing. First year students are not allowed to park a car on campus.

Iona College offers coed housing and housing for students with disabilities.

Iona College Athletics

At Iona College there are a variety of athletic options for students interested in joining a sports program.

Intercollegiate sports are the highest tier of college sports and can be very competitive. Intercollegiate teams are regulated by the NCAA, funded by the university, and compete against teams from other universities. The division of a sports team depends on the size of the unversity, funding, and compention level. An intercollegiate school team will be Division I, II or III, with Division I being the highest level.

Club sports are not regulated by the NCAA and are a great option for students not interested in trying out for an intercollegiate team. Club sports are usually student run but can also be funded by the university.

Intramural sports are the most casual and informal. Intramural sports are often free and require very little time commitment.
