Fisk University Student Life

Fisk University is on a 40-acre campus in an urban setting in Nashville, Tennessee. There are many activities and organizations for Fisk University students to participate in – chorus, theater groups, a campus newspaper, and more.

Fisk University also has fraternities and sororities.

Fisk University has a thriving Student Government Association. In fact, more students participate in Student Government Association than any other on-campus activity.

Other popular student organizations at Fisk University include State Clubs, Class organizations, Greek Fraternities and Sororities and University Choir.

The Fisk University community comes together each year for Homecoming, Spring Arts Festival and Jubilee Day Convocation.

Fisk University Housing

Fisk University offers housing. Students are not required to live on campus First year students are given priority for on-campus housing.

The majority of Fisk University students live on campus. In 2021, 82% of undergrads at Fisk University lived in some kind of on-campus housing and 18% of students lived off-campus or commuted to Fisk University. There are 728 spots available in on-campus housing for all 805 undergraduates. In the 2020-21 school year, 609 students chose to live on-campus. On the weekends, about 80% students stay on-campus. First year students are allowed to park a car on campus.

Fisk University offers coed housing and housing for students with disabilities.

Fisk University Athletics

At Fisk University there are a variety of athletic options for students interested in joining a sports program.

Intercollegiate sports are the highest tier of college sports and can be very competitive. Intercollegiate teams are regulated by the NCAA, funded by the university, and compete against teams from other universities. The division of a sports team depends on the size of the unversity, funding, and compention level. An intercollegiate school team will be Division I, II or III, with Division I being the highest level.

Club sports are not regulated by the NCAA and are a great option for students not interested in trying out for an intercollegiate team. Club sports are usually student run but can also be funded by the university.

Intramural sports are the most casual and informal. Intramural sports are often free and require very little time commitment.

Safety at Fisk University
