Cornell Student Life

Cornell is on a 745-acre campus in a small town setting in Ithaca, New York, not far from Syracuse. Cornell has many clubs, organizations, and activities for students to participate in – band, chorus, theater groups, a campus newspaper, a radio station and more.

Cornell also has fraternities and sororities.

Cornell has a thriving Class Councils. In fact, more students participate in Class Councils than any other on-campus activity.

Other popular student organizations at Cornell include Cornell Hillel, Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Association, Outing Club and Student Assembly.

Cornell students' favorite campus traditions are Slope Day (spring concert and celebration), Homecoming and Welcome Weekend/Orientation.

Does Cornell offer student housing?

Cornell offers housing. Students are not required to live on campus First year students are guaranteed on-campus housing.

The majority of Cornell students live on campus. In 2021, 52% of undergrads at Cornell lived in some kind of on-campus housing and 48% of students lived off-campus or commuted to Cornell. First year students are allowed to park a car on campus.

Cornell offers coed housing and housing for students with disabilities.

Is Cornell Safe?

College is like a home away from home. Whether you're walking to class or coming back from late-night studying (or partying!), it's important to feel safe on campus.

Cornell University is patroled 24 hours a day by trained security. The Cornell campus has emergency telephones or alarms for students to use anytime of day or night.

Cornell offers late-night transportation or safety escorts for students. Campus housing is secure and dorms can only be accessed with secure key cards.
