Clarkson University Student Life

Clarkson University is on a 640-acre campus in a small town setting in Potsdam, New York. There are many activities and organizations for Clarkson University students to participate in – chorus, theater groups, a campus newspaper, a radio station and more.

Clarkson University also has fraternities and sororities.

Clarkson University has a thriving Outing Club. In fact, more students participate in Outing Club than any other on-campus activity.

Other popular student organizations at Clarkson University include Ski & Snowboard Club, Pep Band, Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Spikeball Club.

Clarkson University students' favorite campus traditions are SpringFest, First Saturday/FallFest and Cold Out Gold Out Winter Festival.

Does Clarkson University Offer Student Housing?

Clarkson University offers housing. Students are required to live on campus through senior year. First year students are guaranteed on-campus housing.

The majority of Clarkson University students live on campus. In 2021, 74% of undergrads at Clarkson University lived in some kind of on-campus housing and 26% of students lived off-campus or commuted to Clarkson University. There are 2,450 spots available in on-campus housing for all 2,905 undergraduates. In the 2020-21 school year, 2,048 students chose to live in campus housing. On the weekends, about 90% students stay on-campus. First year students are allowed to park a car on campus.

Clarkson University offers coed housing and housing for students with disabilities.

Clarkson University Athletics

At Clarkson University there are a variety of athletic options for students interested in joining a sports program.

Intercollegiate sports are the highest tier of college sports and can be very competitive. Intercollegiate teams are regulated by the NCAA, funded by the university, and compete against teams from other universities. The division of a sports team depends on the size of the unversity, funding, and compention level. An intercollegiate school team will be Division I, II or III, with Division I being the highest level.

Club sports are not regulated by the NCAA and are a great option for students not interested in trying out for an intercollegiate team. Club sports are usually student run but can also be funded by the university.

Intramural sports are the most casual and informal. Intramural sports are often free and require very little time commitment.
