Alcorn State University is a place of purpose, history, and discovery. Alcorn is the nation’s oldest, historically Black, land-grant university and the second oldest public university in Mississippi. Alcorn is located on 1700 acres in Lorman, Mississippi, with branches in Vicksburg and Natchez. For over 150 years, Alcorn State University has invited students to immerse themselves into its vibrant, picturesque campus to self-reflect, gain knowledge, and meet students and faculty just as passionate as they are. At Alcorn, century-old oak trees shade historic buildings and innovative new facilities. Beneath its branches, students prepare for a changing world, bridging the University’s rich heritage to their future. In addition to its generous scholarship opportunities, Alcorn has earned nationwide recognition not only for being affordable, but also for its excellence in nursing, music, STEM, education, agriculture, and the liberal arts. Outside of the classroom, students can get involved in NCAA Division I athletics as well as more than 85 organizations and clubs, including student-run radio and television stations and the 200-strong Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band featuring the Golden Girls. Today, the student body consists of nearly 3,200 learners from 34 states and 23 countries. They are drawn together by a shared commitment to an enriching educational experience that enables them to successfully pursue graduate or professional studies, engage in teaching, or enter their chosen professions. Alcorn has a steadfast focus on the future, bolstered by its strong history of trailblazers and innovators with leadership dedicated to positioning Alcorn as a leader among elite HBCUs. Alcorn is known to many as a home away from home—a place where students can find their purpose. Alcorn State University has historically emphasized developing the leadership skills of its students in a supportive and well-rounded learning environment while providing an excellent education at an affordable price.
