Notre Dame Academics

University of Notre Dame requires at least 120 credit hours to graduate with a bachelor's degree. There is no accelarated degree program, . Notre Damedoes not offer classes during the summer. Around 97% of students who started college at Notre Dame graduate within six years. Notre Dame offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

What Classes Are Required at Notre Dame?

Notre Dame has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students are not required to fulfill a lanuage requirement , but there is a math and science requirement. Students are not required to take a computer class to graduate.

Majors at Notre Dame

When choosing a major, Notre Dame students have several choices to make. Scroll down to see a full list of majors offered at Notre Dame below. Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Declaring a double major may mean taking more courses, but it can provide an interesting mix of experience that helps students stand out when job searching or applying to a graduate program.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. Notre Dame does not require a senior project for all students.

Does Notre Dame Offer Learning Disability Services?

Notre Dame offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does Notre Dame Offer Online Classes?

Notre Dame has distance learning options for students who are interested in taking classes online.

Does Notre Dame Offer Credit for AP Classes?

Notre Dame offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does Notre Dame Have An Honor's Program?

Notre Dame offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, and does not offer a Freshman Honors College. The Freshman Honors college provides a rich curriculum for highly-motivated first-year students.

Does Notre Dame Require Internships?

Notre Dame does not require an internship for students in some majors only. Internships can help students gain hands on work experience for their resume, and explore career paths that interest them without committing to one path.
