West Point Academics

United States Military Academy - West Point requires at least 40 courses to complete a bachelor's degree. There is no accelarated degree program, . West Pointdoes not offer classes during the summer. Around 85% of students who started college at West Point graduate within six years. West Point offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

What Classes Are Required at West Point?

West Point has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students are required to fulfill a lanuage requirement as well as a math and science requirement. Students are required to take a computer class to fufill the graduation requirements for West Point.

Majors at West Point

Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Double majoring may require more work but it can provide an interesting mix of experience that helps students stand out when job searching or applying to a graduate program.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. Students are not required to complete a senior project unless it is required for their specific major .

Does West Point Have An Online Program?

West Point does not have distance learning options or fully-online programs, so students must be able to attend classes on-campus.

Does West Point Offer Credit for AP Classes?

West Point offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does West Point Have An Honor's Program?

West Point offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, and does not offer a Freshman Honors College. The Freshman Honors college provides a rich curriculum for highly-motivated first-year students.

Does West Point Require Internships?

Students can still look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.
