TCNJ Academics

The College of New Jersey requires a minimum of 120 semester hours to complete a bachelor's degree. If students would like to graduate in less time than normal, they can choose the accelerated degree program. Around 86% of students who started college at TCNJ complete all the credits required within six years. TCNJ offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

What Classes Do I Have To Take at TCNJ?

TCNJ has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students do not need to fulfull a language requirement , but there is a math and science requirement. Students do not have to take a computer class.

Majors at TCNJ

When choosing a major, TCNJ students have several choices to make. Scroll down to see a full list of majors offered at TCNJ below. Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Declaring a double major may require more work but it can provide a unique combination of experience that helps students stand out when job searching or applying to a graduate program.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. Students are not required to complete a senior project unless it is required for their specific major .

Does TCNJ Offer Learning Disability Services?

TCNJ offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does TCNJ Offer Online Classes?

TCNJ does not have distance learning options or fully-online programs, so students must be able to attend classes on-campus.

Does TCNJ Give AP Credit?

TCNJ offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does TCNJ Have An Honor's Program?

TCNJ offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, but does not offer a Freshman Honors College.

Does TCNJ Require Internships?

TCNJ requires an internship for students in some majors only. Students can look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.
