SFA Academics

Stephen F. Austin State University requires at least 120 semester credit hours to graduate with a bachelor's degree. Students can choose the accelarated degree program if they would like to finish all the credits for graduation in less time than normal. Around 53% of students who started college at SFA finish the requirements for graduation within six years. SFA offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

Which Courses Do I Have To Take at SFA?

SFA has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students do not need to fulfull a language requirement , but there is a math and science requirement. Students are not required to take a computer class to graduate.

Majors at SFA

When choosing a major, SFA students have several choices to make. Scroll down to see a full list of majors offered at SFA below. Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Declaring a double major may require more work but it can provide a unique combination of experience that helps students stand out when job searching or applying to grad school.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. SFA does not require all students to complete a senior project.

Does SFA Have Services For Students With Disabilities?

SFA offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does SFA Offer Online Classes?

SFA has distance learning options for students who are interested in taking classes online.

Does SFA Offer Credit for AP Classes?

SFA offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does SFA Have An Honor's Program?

SFA does not offer an honors program for highly-qualified applicants.

Does SFA Require Internships?

SFA requires an internship for students in some majors only. Students can look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.
