SLU Academics

Saint Louis University requires at least 120 credit hours to complete a bachelor's degree. Students can choose the accelarated degree program if they would like to finish all the credits for graduation in less time than normal. Around 80% of students who started college at SLU complete all the credits required within six years. SLU offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

Which Courses Do I Have To Take at SLU?

SLU has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students are not required to fulfill a lanuage requirement , but there is a math and science requirement. Students do not have to take a computer class.

Majors at SLU

When choosing a major, SLU students have several choices to make. Scroll down to see a full list of majors offered at SLU below. Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Double majoring may require more work but it can provide an interesting mix of experience that helps students stand out when looking for a job or applying to grad school.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. SLU does not require a senior project for all students.

Does SLU Have Services For Students With Disabilities?

SLU offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does SLU Have An Online Program?

SLU has distance learning options for students who are interested in taking classes online.

Does SLU Give AP Credit?

SLU offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does SLU Have An Honor's Program?

SLU offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, but does not offer a Freshman Honors College.

Does SLU Require Internships?

SLU requires an internship for students in some majors only. Students can look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.
