IUPUI Academics

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis requires a minimum of 120 credit hours to complete a bachelor's degree. If students would like to graduate in less time than normal, they can choose the accelerated degree program. Around 53% of students who started college at IUPUI complete all the credits required within six years. IUPUI offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

Which Courses Are Required at IUPUI?

IUPUI has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students need to fulfull a language requirement as well as a math and science requirement. Students do not have to take a computer class.

Majors at IUPUI

Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Declaring a double major may mean taking more courses, but it can provide an interesting mix of experience that helps students stand out when looking for a job or applying to a graduate program.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. IUPUI does not require a senior project for all students.

IUPUI offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does IUPUI Offer Credit for AP Classes?

IUPUI offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does IUPUI Have An Honor's Program?

IUPUI offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, and offers a Freshman Honors College. The Freshman Honors college provides a rich curriculum for highly-motivated first-year students.

Does IUPUI Require Internships?

IUPUI does not require an internship for all students Students can still look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.
