FAMU Academics

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University requires a minimum of 120 semester hours to graduate with a bachelor's degree. If students would like to graduate in less time than normal, they can choose the accelerated degree program. Around 54% of students who started college at FAMU complete all the credits required within six years. FAMU offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

Which Courses Are Required at FAMU?

FAMU has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students are required to fulfill a lanuage requirement as well as a math and science requirement. Students are required to take a computer class to fufill the graduation requirements for FAMU.

Double majoring may mean taking more courses, but it can provide an interesting mix of experience that helps students stand out when looking for a job or applying to grad school.

Students must choose one of the majors offered by the college. Self-designed majors are not allowed. FAMU does not require a senior project for all students.

Does FAMU Offer Learning Disability Services?

FAMU offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

FAMU has distance learning options for students who are interested in taking classes online.

Does FAMU Offer Credit for AP Classes?

FAMU offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does FAMU Have An Honor's Program?

FAMU offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, and does not offer a Freshman Honors College. The Freshman Honors college provides a rich curriculum for highly-motivated first-year students.

Does FAMU Require Internships?

FAMU does not require an internship for all students Students can still look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.
