BU Academics

Boston University requires at least 128 credits to graduate with a bachelor's degree. If students would like to graduate in less time than normal, they can choose the accelerated degree program. Around 89% of students who started college at BU complete all the credits required within six years. BU offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

Which Courses Do I Have To Take at BU?

BU has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students are not required to fulfill a lanuage requirement or a math or science requirement. Students do not have to take a computer class.

Majors at BU

When choosing a major, BU students have several choices to make. Scroll down to see a full list of majors offered at BU below. Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Double majoring may mean taking more courses, but it can provide a unique combination of experience that helps students stand out when looking for a job or applying to a graduate program.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. BU does not require a senior project for all students.

Does BU Offer Learning Disability Services?

BU offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does BU Offer Online Classes?

BU has distance learning options for students who are interested in taking classes online.

Does BU Offer Credit for AP Classes?

BU offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does BU Have An Honor's Program?

BU offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, and offers a Freshman Honors College. The Freshman Honors college provides a rich curriculum for highly-motivated first-year students.

Does BU Require Internships?

BU requires an internship for students in some majors only. Students can look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.
