Nearly 150,000 students are enrolled in college in West Virginia. The state has two public land-grant universities, West Virginia State University and West Virginia University. WVU is also one of two HBCU's in the state; the other is Bluefield State.
Bethany College, founded in 1840, is the state's oldest school, and Davis & Elkins is one of the state's best private schools.
