Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - There were a lot of people at the session. Admin was a former undergrad and grad student. She was very perky and thought she was a standup comedian. Session was fairly informative.

Campus Tour: Yes - Daughter didn't really connect at all with the tour guide. They were assigned based on your last name and ours was a male business major.

Dormitories:
We could not get into a dorm as it was early in the school year and apparently the tour guides had not been given their passcards yet. This was really disappointing for many people on our tour.

The area around campus is not great and there is not much there to do. There is a CVS, several pizza places, and a 7-11. Mostly residential with triple deckers, many of which the school has bought up.

Providence is now a pretty nice city. Lots of good bars and restaurants. The area near Brown is fun to visit.

Campus Visit Notes for Providence College

Visit Description:

Went to visit on a beautiful day in Sept. There were probably about 200 people in the admin session. Session was about an hour and then the tour lasted about 45 minutes. PC is my alma mater so was hoping my D would love it. She did not. The campus is very attractive. They have torn down a lot of the old buildings and rebuilt. The new buildings are gorgeous. Reminded me a bit of Harry Potter. Tons of nice lounge areas and places to study all over campus. Library hasn't changed much in 30 years. Was disappointed that we couldn't see a dorm room. People in our tour group who had travelled far for the tour were not happy at all. People in our group (we had about 10 famiies with our tourguide) either seemed totally disinterested in the school or really snobby.

The school and tour felt more Catholic than I remembered it which turned my daughter off. She did also did not like the 2 year Western Civ requirement. Student body is pretty homogenous with a sporty/preppy vibe.

They have lots of on-campus programming. When we were there, there was an afternoon party going on with inflatbales and a DJ on lower campus. Looked really fun. Definitely still a party school from what I have heard from local students that attend.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

We live nearby so did not stay overnight.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Federal Hill section in Providence is great for Italian food.
