Admissions Interview: No - This was our 2nd visit to Ball State. My daughter was admitted into the honors college so we did not meet with admissions. I have had phone conversations and they are very helpful and accommodating.
Information Session: Yes - Info session is very informative. They have some amazing opportunities in the way of immersive learning, internships, and study abroad programs.
Campus Tour: Yes - Love the campus. It's very pretty, clean, and not so big that it is overwhelming. They have a great fitness center and the Media and Communication Center(consisting of 4 buildings)is top notch.
Overnight Visit: Yes - We stayed at a local hotel. There are several hotels in the area. Last time we stayed at the University Hotel on campus and that was very clean, had everything we needed, and was very convenient.
Classroom Visit: Yes - My daughter observed a T-Com class and then we all got to sit in and watch the nightly newscast (NewsLink) from the control room. This was a great experience.
Campus Visit Notes for Ball State University
We were very pleased with our visit to Ball State. This was our second visit to the school. Last year, we attended a larger visit event and that was a great experience. This year, we did an individual visit and met with Honors College and the T-Com Dept., in addition to an admissions info session and campus tour. They have a top-notch program in journalism with cutting edge equipment. I know that they are also known for architecture, business, nursing, and education. Ball State is like a hidden gem. It is a great school, but not as well known as some of it's bigger name counterparts.
The campus is very pretty and there are a lot of activities for students. Muncie is small town, but it seems fine. We are from Chicago and my daughter was impressed with the school.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
We stayed at the College Hotel on our first visit and that was very nice and convenient. The 2nd time, we stayed at the Best Western because we had more people. It was clean and the staff was nice.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
There are many local restaurants. We ate at the IHOP, Steak & Shake, and a little pizza place a block off campus called Greek's Pizzeria. Greek's was very good and very inexpensive.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
The campus has a shuttle and the Muncie buses are free to students and will take them to shopping, restaurants, etc. Parking was no problem on campus. A parking pass was mailed to us with our info.
