Washington College Student Life

Washington College is on a 140-acre campus in a small town setting in Chestertown, Maryland, not far from Baltimore and Washington and DC. There are many activities and organizations for Washington College students to participate in – chorus, theater groups, a campus newspaper, a radio station and more.

Washington College also has fraternities and sororities.

Washington College has a thriving Student environmental alliance. In fact, more students participate in Student environmental alliance than any other on-campus activity.

Other popular student organizations at Washington College include Student Government association, Sorority and fraternity life, National Society of Leadership and Success and E-sports

Washington College students' favorite campus events are Fall Family Weekend, Shoremal, and George Washington's Birthday Ball.

Washington College Housing

Washington College offers housing. Students are required to live on campus through sophomore year. First year students are guaranteed on-campus housing.

Most Washington College students live off campus. In 2021, 3% of undergrads at Washington College lived in some kind of on-campus housing and 97% of students lived off-campus or commuted to Washington College. There are 1,293 spots available in on-campus housing for all 1,089 undergraduates. In the 2020-21 school year, 1,229 students chose to live on-campus. On the weekends, about 7% students stay on-campus. First year students are allowed to park a car on campus.

Washington College offers coed housing and housing for students with disabilities.

Safety at Washington College

College is like a home away from home. Whether you're walking to class or coming back from late-night studying (or partying!), it's important to feel safe on campus.

Washington College is patroled 24 hours a day by trained security. The Washington College campus has emergency telephones or alarms for students to use anytime of day or night. The school also has student security patrols.

Washington College offers late-night transportation or safety escorts for students. Dorms can only be accessed with secure key cards so that students can feel confident that they are safe in on-campus housing.
