University of the West Academics

University of the West requires at least 120 units to complete a bachelor's degree. If students would like to graduate in less time than normal, they can choose the accelerated degree program.

University of the West does accept transfer credits. The school accepts and IB credits. Additionally, University of the West has a summer session, so students can earn credits during the summer.

Around 50% of students who started college at University of the West complete all the credits required within six years.

University of the West offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

What Classes Do I Have To Take at University of the West?

University of the West has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate.

Students need to fulfull a language requirement as well as a math and science requirement. Students do not have to take a computer class.

Majors at University of the West

When choosing a major, University of the West students have several choices to make. Scroll down to see a full list of majors offered at University of the West below.

Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Declaring a double major may mean taking more courses, but it can provide an interesting mix of experience that helps students stand out when job searching or applying to grad school.

Students must choose one of the majors offered by the college. Self-designed majors are not allowed. University of the West does not require a senior project for all students.

Does University of the West Offer Learning Disability Services?

University of the West does not offer services for students with disabilities.

Does University of the West Have An Online Program?

University of the West does not have distance learning options or fully-online programs, so students must be able to attend classes on-campus.

Does University of the West Give AP Credit?

University of the West does not offer credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken during high school.

Does University of the West Have An Honors Program?

University of the West does not offer an honors program or a Freshman Honor College..

Does University of the West Require Internships?

University of the West does not require an internship for all students, but does require an internship for students in some majors. Students can look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.


The Reserve Officers' Training Corps, which is also commonly known as ROTC, is a leadership program that prepares students to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces after graduation. College level ROTC programs prepare students to become officers in the military through physical, academic, and leadership training. ROTC programs are part of the college curriculum and usually cover the cost of tuition.

Each branch of the miltary has its own ROTC program, but not every program is available at every university. Possible programs include Army ROTC, Air Force ROTC, and Navy ROTC.

University of the West does not have any ROTC programs.

Dual Degree Programs at University of the West

A dual degree program allows a student to study and earn two degrees at the same time. A 3-2 dual degree program is a five-year program wherein the first three years are spend taking undergraduate courses and the final two years are spent taking graduate courses. Upon completion of the 5 years, the student will be awarded two degrees, a bachelor's degree and a master's degree.

University of the West does not have any dual degree programs available for students.
