UC San Diego Academics

University of California, San Diego requires a minimum of 180 credit hours to complete a bachelor's degree. If students would like to graduate in less time than normal, they can choose the accelerated degree program. Around 87% of students who started college at UC San Diego complete all the credits required within six years. UC San Diego offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

What Classes Do I Have To Take at UC San Diego?

UC San Diego has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students are not required to fulfill a lanuage requirement , but there is a math and science requirement. Students are not required to take a computer class to graduate.

Majors at UC San Diego

Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Declaring a double major may require more work but it can provide a unique combination of experience that helps students stand out when job searching or applying to a graduate program.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. UC San Diego does not require all students to complete a senior project.

Does UC San Diego Have Services For Students With Disabilities?

UC San Diego offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does UC San Diego Offer Online Classes?

UC San Diego does not have distance learning options or fully-online programs, so students must be able to attend classes on-campus.

Does UC San Diego Give AP Credit?

UC San Diego offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does UC San Diego Have An Honor's Program?

UC San Diego offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, and offers a Freshman Honors College. The Freshman Honors college provides a rich curriculum for highly-motivated first-year students.
