Truman State University Student Life

Truman State University is on a 140-acre campus in a small town setting in Kirksville, Missouri. There are many activities and organizations for Truman State University students to participate in – band, chorus, theater groups, a campus newspaper, a radio station and more.

Truman State University also has fraternities and sororities.

Truman State University has a thriving Nursing Student Association. In fact, more students participate in Nursing Student Association than any other on-campus activity.

Other popular student organizations at Truman State University include Alpha Sigma Gamma (service sorority), Sigma Kappa (social sorority), Delta Zeta (social sorority) and Sigma Sigma Sigma (social sorority).

The Truman State University community comes together each year for Homecoming, Final Blowout (spring carnival) and BIG Event (one-day community service event).

Truman State University Housing

Truman State University offers housing for students. Students are required to live on campus through freshman year. First year students are guaranteed on-campus housing.

Most Truman State University students live off campus. In 2021, 36.7% of undergrads at Truman State University lived in some kind of on-campus housing and 63.3% of students lived off-campus or commuted to Truman State University. There are 2,786 spots available in on-campus housing for all 4,939 undergraduates. In the 2020-21 school year, 1,920 students chose to live on-campus. First year students are allowed to park a car on campus.

Truman State University offers coed housing and housing for students with disabilities.

Truman State University Athletics

At Truman State University there are a variety of athletic options for students interested in joining a sports program.

Intercollegiate sports are the highest tier of college sports and can be very competitive. Intercollegiate teams are regulated by the NCAA, funded by the university, and compete against teams from other universities. The division of a sports team depends on the size of the university, funding, and competition level. An intercollegiate school team will be Division I, II or III, with Division I being the highest level.

Club sports are not regulated by the NCAA and are a great option for students not interested in trying out for an intercollegiate team. Club sports are usually student run but can also be funded by the university.

Intramural sports are the most casual and informal. Intramural sports are often free and require very little time commitment.

Safety at Truman State University
