UT Austin Academics

The University of Texas at Austin requires a minimum of 120 semester hours to graduate with a bachelor's degree. Students can choose the accelarated degree program if they would like to finish all the credits for graduation in less time than normal. Around 88% of students who started college at UT Austin graduate within six years. UT Austin offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

What Classes Do I Have To Take at UT Austin?

UT Austin has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students are required to fulfill a lanuage requirement as well as a math and science requirement. Students are not required to take a computer class to graduate.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. UT Austin does not require a senior project for all students.

UT Austin offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does UT Austin Give AP Credit?

UT Austin offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

UT Austin offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, and does not offer a Freshman Honors College. The Freshman Honors college provides a rich curriculum for highly-motivated first-year students.
