Stanford Academics

Stanford University requires a minimum of 180 quarter hours to complete a bachelor's degree. There is no accelarated degree program, . Stanforddoes not offer classes during the summer. Around 95% of students who started college at Stanford finish the requirements for graduation within six years. Stanford offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

What Classes Are Required at Stanford?

Stanford has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students need to fulfull a language requirement , but there is no math or science requirement. Students do not have to take a computer class.

Majors at Stanford

When choosing a major, Stanford students have several choices to make. Scroll down to see a full list of majors offered at Stanford below. Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Double majoring may mean taking more courses, but it can provide a unique combination of experience that helps students stand out when looking for a job or applying to grad school.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. Stanford does not require a senior project for all students.

Does Stanford Have Services For Students With Disabilities?

Stanford offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does Stanford Offer Online Classes?

Stanford has distance learning options for students who are interested in taking classes online.

Does Stanford Give AP Credit?

Stanford offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does Stanford Have An Honor's Program?

Stanford offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, but does not offer a Freshman Honors College.

Does Stanford Require Internships?

Stanford does not require an internship for students in some majors only. Internships can help students gain hands on work experience for their resume, and explore career paths that interest them without committing to one path.
