Southwestern Academics

Southwestern Oklahoma State University requires at least 120 credit hours to complete a bachelor's degree. If students would like to graduate in less time than normal, they can choose the accelerated degree program. Around 43% of students who started college at Southwestern complete all the credits required within six years. Southwestern offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

What Classes Are Required at Southwestern?

Southwestern has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students are not required to fulfill a lanuage requirement , but there is a math and science requirement. Students are required to take a computer class to fufill the graduation requirements for Southwestern.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. Southwestern does not require all students to complete a senior project.

Does Southwestern Give Credit for AP Classes?

Southwestern offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does Southwestern Have An Honor's Program?

Southwestern offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, and offers a Freshman Honors College. The Freshman Honors college provides a rich curriculum for highly-motivated first-year students.

Does Southwestern Require Internships?

Southwestern does not require an internship for all students Students can still look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.
