Santa Clara University Student Life

Santa Clara University is on a 106-acre campus in a suburban setting in Santa Clara, California, not far from San Francisco and San Jose. There are many activities and organizations for Santa Clara University students to participate in – chorus, theater groups, a campus newspaper, a radio station and more.

Santa Clara University does not have fraternities or sororities.

Santa Clara University has a thriving Multicultural Center. In fact, more students participate in Multicultural Center than any other on-campus activity.

Other popular student organizations at Santa Clara University include Associated Student Government, Santa Clara Community Action Program, Activities Programming Board and Into the Wild.

Santa Clara University students' favorite campus traditions are Fall Concert, Global Village (multicultural event) and Relay for Life.

Santa Clara University Housing

Santa Clara University offers on-campus housing. Students are not required to live on campus. First year students are given priority for on-campus housing. . There are 3,297 spots available in on-campus housing for all 5,608 undergraduates. In the 2020-21 school year, 3,295 students chose to live in campus housing. First year students are not allowed to park a car on campus.

Santa Clara University Athletics

At Santa Clara University there are a variety of athletic options for students interested in joining a sports program.

Intercollegiate sports are the highest tier of college sports and can be very competitive. Intercollegiate teams are regulated by the NCAA, funded by the university, and compete against teams from other universities. The division of a sports team depends on the size of the university, funding, and competition level. An intercollegiate school team will be Division I, II or III, with Division I being the highest level.

Club sports are not regulated by the NCAA and are a great option for students not interested in trying out for an intercollegiate team. Club sports are usually student run but can also be funded by the university.

Intramural sports are the most casual and informal. Intramural sports are often free and require very little time commitment.
