Hampshire College Student Life

Hampshire College is on a 800-acre campus in a small town setting in Amherst, Massachusetts. There are many activities and organizations for Hampshire College students to participate in – chorus, theater groups, a campus newspaper, a radio station and more.

Hampshire College does not have fraternities or sororities.

Hampshire College has a thriving Red Scare Frisbee. In fact, more students participate in Red Scare Frisbee than any other on-campus activity.

Other popular student organizations at Hampshire College include Queer Community Alliance, Excalibur (fantasy/role playing), Sports Coop and Circus Folks Unite.

Hampshire College students' favorite campus traditions are Spring Jam, Hampshire Halloween and Family and Friends Weekend.

Does Hampshire College offer student housing?

Hampshire College offers housing. Students are required to live on campus through senior year. First year students are guaranteed on-campus housing.

The majority of Hampshire College students live on campus. In 2021, 80% of undergrads at Hampshire College lived in some kind of on-campus housing and 20% of students lived off-campus or commuted to Hampshire College. First year students are allowed to park a car on campus.

Hampshire College offers coed housing and housing for students with disabilities.
