Fort Lewis College Student Life

Fort Lewis College is on a 350-acre campus in a small town setting in Durango, Colorado. Fort Lewis College has many clubs, organizations, and activities for students to participate in – theater groups, a campus newspaper, a radio station and more.

Fort Lewis College does not have fraternities or sororities.

Fort Lewis College has a thriving KDUR - Campus/community radio. In fact, more students participate in KDUR - Campus/community radio than any other on-campus activity.

Other popular student organizations at Fort Lewis College include Environmental Center, Student Union Productions, Dance Co-Motion and Master Plan Ministries.

Fort Lewis College students' favorite campus traditions are SkyFest, Homecoming and Hozhoni Days.

Does Fort Lewis College Offer Student Housing?

Fort Lewis College offers housing. Students are required to live on campus through freshman year. First year students are given priority for on-campus housing.

Most Fort Lewis College students live off campus. In 2021, 43% of undergrads at Fort Lewis College lived in some kind of on-campus housing and 57% of students lived off-campus or commuted to Fort Lewis College. There are 1,481 spots available in on-campus housing for all 3,229 undergraduates. In the 2020-21 school year, 1,351 students chose to live on-campus. On the weekends, about 70% students stay on-campus. First year students are allowed to park a car on campus.

Fort Lewis College offers coed housing and housing for students with disabilities.

Fort Lewis College Athletics

At Fort Lewis College there are a variety of athletic options for students interested in joining a sports program.

Intercollegiate sports are the highest tier of college sports and can be very competitive. Intercollegiate teams are regulated by the NCAA, funded by the university, and compete against teams from other universities. The division of a sports team depends on the size of the unversity, funding, and compention level. An intercollegiate school team will be Division I, II or III, with Division I being the highest level.

Club sports are not regulated by the NCAA and are a great option for students not interested in trying out for an intercollegiate team. Club sports are usually student run but can also be funded by the university.

Intramural sports are the most casual and informal. Intramural sports are often free and require very little time commitment.

Is Fort Lewis College Safe?
