Eastern Academics

Eastern Kentucky University requires a minimum of 120 semester hours to complete a bachelor's degree. There is no accelarated degree program, but students who wish to save money or graduate early can look into transferring in credits. Common takes APand IB credits. Additionally, Eastern has a summer session, so students can earn credits during the summer. Around 52% of students who started college at Eastern finish the requirements for graduation within six years. Eastern offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.

Which Courses Do I Have To Take at Eastern?

Eastern has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students are required to fulfill a lanuage requirement as well as a math and science requirement. Students are required to take a computer class to fufill the graduation requirements for Eastern.

Majors at Eastern

Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Declaring a double major may mean taking more courses, but it can provide an interesting mix of experience that helps students stand out when looking for a job or applying to grad school.

If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. Eastern does not require a senior project for all students.

Does Eastern Offer Learning Disability Services?

Eastern offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.

Does Eastern Offer Online Classes?

Eastern has distance learning options for students who are interested in taking classes online.

Does Eastern Give Credit for AP Classes?

Eastern offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.

Does Eastern Have An Honor's Program?

Eastern offers an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, and does not offer a Freshman Honors College. The Freshman Honors college provides a rich curriculum for highly-motivated first-year students.

Does Eastern Require Internships?

Eastern requires an internship for students in some majors only. Students can look for internships during the summer, or gain work experience with a part-time job.
