Barnard College requires at least 122 credits to graduate with a bachelor's degree. Students can choose the accelarated degree program if they would like to finish all the credits for graduation in less time than normal. Around 90% of students who started college at Barnard graduate within six years. Barnard offers an orientation program before the start of fall classes to prepare new students for college life.
Barnard has a core curriculum, which means there are certain classes or types of classes all students must take to graduate. Students need to fulfull a language requirement as well as a math and science requirement. Students are required to take a computer class to fufill the graduation requirements for Barnard.
When choosing a major, Barnard students have several choices to make. Scroll down to see a full list of majors offered at Barnard below. Student struggling to choose just one area of study may consider a double major. Double majoring may mean taking more courses, but it can provide a unique combination of experience that helps students stand out when looking for a job or applying to a graduate program.
If students would like to study something that is not offered as an official major, they can design their own major. Students are not required to complete a senior project unless it is required for their specific major .
Barnard offers services for students with disabilities. Prospective students can contact the college's Office of Disability Services to learn more about any support and accomodations offered. These conversations are usually kept confidential and will not be shared with the admissions office if you do not wish to share.
Barnard does not have distance learning options or fully-online programs, so students must be able to attend classes on-campus.
Barnard offers some credit for Advanced Placement (AP) classes taken in high school. Schools have different requirements for what AP scores they accept, so some students may not receive AP credit.
Barnard does not offer an honors program for highly-qualified applicants, but does not offer a Freshman Honors College.
Barnard does not require an internship for students in some majors only. Internships are a great way to get work experience, discover career paths that might fit you, or rule out ones that don't.
