I am a junior, and I am taking the rigorous courses at my school. I am doing well with all my classes but Honors English 11 and Honors Math Analysis. In fact, I have Bs in them right now, and I have three weeks left before the report card. I am still shooting for As, but I don't think it is possible. If I get Bs, how will they affect my chance of getting in colleges I want (UVA, H, P, Y, Stanford and Duke)? If you want to know, my GPA is 3.97

yeah i have a B+ in precalc, but it's very likely to go up to an A, because we have 4.5 weeks still left until grade cards

Check your school protocol. I know that our school only computes GPA and class rank at the END of the school year. The only grades that "count" are the final grades in a course...not midyear marks or 1st marking period. The exception is senior year, when class rank and GPA are calculated using the grades at the end of the first semester. See what your school does. These first report card marks may be just that....first report card marks. At our school they don't appear on the transcript at all...only final course grades do.

we have 4 9 week grading periods, 2 9 weeks is a semester, and grades are calculated at semester and year's end

Celebrain 23, my school is like yours, but because I am new to it, I don't know anything about the report cards. Which report cards will be shown on the transcript? All of them or just the semesters?

A humble username there, smartgirl. I'm a freshman at the college of my choice, so figured I'd stop by the old CC forums and help out a few stressed out peers. Do my bit of karmic good.

YOU'LL BE FINE. A few Bs aren't going to kill you; why are you so set on Duke or "H, P, Y" anyway? When I see that, I see someone who is blindly going for prestige without passion.

Out of those schools, at least one will accept you if prestige is what you want. I go to a good-name school because I fell in love with it, not because it will impress people at cocktail parties 25 years from now.

Apply where you want next year, have a bit of fun junior year, and just make a point of getting mostly As. There are only so many perfect geniuses out there; even "H, P, Y" and schools like them will have to dip into the pool of plain ol' above average smart / non-genius people.
