Our school has signed up all the sophomores for the PSAT. I am not fully prepared for it, and i havent and i dont think i will be able to study for it. Do you think that i should cancel it, and take it later on in the year? Also is the one comin in October the New or Old PSAT. One last question, when you take the PSAT in the tenth grade, does it count towards the nation merit scholarship. Thanx

The PSAT scores are not sent out to colleges. Colleges can request to buy the names of students whose PSAT scores are within certain broad ranges, but colleges are not told the students' exactly scores.
Only junior year PSAT scores count for scholarships.
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by taking the test as a soph. It will be good practice for next year.

don't not take it if you didn't prepare.
my school requires all the sophmores as well as juniors to take it, and it's great practice. you get a score report and see which areas you need to improve in, but it doesn't matter at all for college. you can't even qualify for the national merit scholarship. it's just practice. don't sweat it. and it's only offered in october.

thanks people, i guess i will take it. I only have about two weeks to prepare for it now, but i will try and do the best i can. Just wondering if you have any suggestions on what books that i should use to study for it considering that it is the New PSAT. Thnx again

why wouldn't you take the PSAT?
and I don't understand the need to prepare for it, it's not like a test in class where you know what's going to be on it, just relax and get plenty of sleep the night before

definitely take it. my soph psat scores helped me A LOT in getting a good junior year score. It helped me diagnose my weak areas early on. It's free, colleges won't see it, you learn what areas to work on---what's there to lose. Take it.
