If my school doesn't offer AP classes, am I screwed unless I want to go to some crappy schools?

no. try to take classes at CC or just take the highest classes available at your school. colleges know what's available to you.

Harvard and other elite schools are stressing that you should take advantage of the most rigorous classes offered in your school. They also say it takes more determination to max out of a regular school than just do enough to get by at a great school. That is, create your own club/s, do research at a nearby college/university, take all honors/AP classes available, etc.

Harvard mentions this fact on the undergraduate admission section of their website, specifically on the ADMISSIONS FAQ.
