I just graduated and between Honor Societies and my Gold Award and a bunch of other stuff I got way too many certificates that my mom and I don't really know what to do with. They're all different sizes and some come with covers while others don't. We're trying to figure out how to store them long term because there's just too many to display. Any suggestions? Does anyone else have this problem?

wow...with all the geniuses on this site, I didn't realize some people still thought they had a right to brag...and honor society at that! Not even something small like intel. amazing

put it in a box and place it in an attic. I get a ton of these as well

By Lisasimpson (Lisasimpson) on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 04:28 pm: Edit

no definitely frame them all and hang them up, preferably in the living room. if there are a lot of certificates, i recommend using tape and glue to make a "wallpaper" and then sticking it to the living room wall. if the wall is filled trophy cases, try the ceiling. guests love stuff like that.

Firstly, congrats on all the awards!

Secondly, don't worry, I feel your pain! Especially all the 923084093280 certificates from random organizations that commend you on the Gold Award, aren't they hilarious? My favorite had to be the one from Inland Fisheries or something to that effect... nice and random :) but of course, I appreciated every one.

-For my awards, I started by getting rid of all the folders and things they came in. The only one I kept was the one with the Gold Award seal embossed on it... but I'm not sure how long I'll even keep that one. Next, I bought tons of Avery view page pockets and put all the 8.5x11 certificates in those, then stored them all, in chronological order, in a 3-ring binder. On the front of the binder I stuck a piece of paper about the size of an index card that says "Awards" in a semi-artsy way. I plan to take the 3 awards I currently have on my wall (they are REALLY pretty, that's the only reason they're up) and add them to the binder, then I will probably bring the binder to college with me in the fall. I don't plan to display them or anything, just to have them available in case I ever get really bummed or just overwhelmed and need a boost.

Side question - Anyone have advice for plaques? I have no clue where to put them. I don't want to hang them up in my room, I think that's a bit pretentious, but I'd like to find something a little cooler than just putting them in the closet. My parents currently have them on the mantel, but I don't like how it's set up with 2 of my awards then pictures of my sisters and me... makes it seem like I'm the only one who does anything worthwhile, but that's not true, my sisters are awesome, they just don't happen to have plaques, know what I mean? :) thanks for any advice

I can't believe people are actually giving this idiot some concrete suggestions.

Put them in a cardboard box and keep them in the attic

By Guitarshredder (Guitarshredder) on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 06:31 pm: Edit

I'm convinced this whole thread is a sick joke.

Since, I've graduated high school, I don't see the significance in keeping a "Good Citizenship" award from 9th grade. So, I just threw it out, with the rest of those Microsoft Publisher Certificates, given to me.

>>>>Vernicelli I put mine in the attic but now the house is collapsing under the weight! HELP!!!!

lmao!! my post was a joke, in case anybody was wondering. although i think the original poster was 100% serious, along with aquaholic

By Aquaholic (Aquaholic) on Saturday, July 17, 2004 - 12:17 am: Edit

don't worry, nobody thought you were serious... at least I hoped you weren't, lol... "guests love stuff like that" umm yeah right :) made me laugh though

-I think one of the main differences between you guys making fun of this and me is the Packrat factor... I like to keep EVERYTHING, so this was something I actually thought about... I'm not like you guys who are comfortable throwing everything away.
-PLUS, you're obviously not Scouts... you don't realize how many certificates and junk come along with the Gold Award... you get a neverending goody box of stuff you feel too bad to throw away, but that you really don't need at all.

By Idiias (Idiias) on Saturday, July 17, 2004 - 02:47 am: Edit

Hahaha. I did a search on Mouse, and the only other post he did was on the worst book he's read.

My guess is, it's one of you guys under a secret username getting a kick out of all this.

It's probably either Tubby or Vulcano. Please confess in the Confessions Room located in the CC Cafe.

Aquaholic, thanks for actually giving me some serious advice. The binder thing sounds pretty good. As for the plaques, I guess you could put them on your bureau or something. My sister got a bunch of plaques and medals for track, and we took one of the coat rack/spice rack shelves and put it on the wall near her bed. The hooks were good for the medals, and trophies/plaques can go on top.
I never got an award from anywhere as good the Inland Fisheries. I did get the Ladies Auxillary to Veterans of Foreign wars. In general, mine were mostly from congressmen attempting to get reelected. I actually got most of them twice, once at my own ceremony, and again at the Gold Award thingy my council put on. But the funniest part was I got a package of the same citations when I received a scholarship from Dunkin' Donuts. As ridiculous as the 923084093280 certificates were for the Gold Award, at least I can see the sense.

No problem, Mouse :) Thanks for your advice too... I ended up with some duplicates of papers as well since my project was in September but I didn't have a ceremony until June. Anyway, I love the actual award... the gold pin... it's so beautiful and shiny. Good luck getting your awards stored!

By Idiias (Idiias) on Sunday, July 18, 2004 - 02:29 pm: Edit
