Hi,

I am founding a chapter of FBLA in my school. I have some ideas of what types of activities to have our members participate in but I need more ideas. Any members of a FBLA chapter got any ideas to share with me?

thx

I started a club at my school this year. It went great. Try and realize the main focus is probably the state conference. Before that, you should be working on fudraising events and community service projects. Also bring in a local businessperson as a guest speaker. Don't meet more than once every two weeks. Also concentrate on studying and preparing for all the competitions.

heh im in the day school chapter of fbla but due to lack of communication between the sponsor and the online program's fbla adviser...we never do anyhting the actull club gets too...the only thing weve done all year is go on a trip to citicorp headquarters which was really cool. Get larg local compaines to schedule tours plan a luncheon and q&a session with tour guides afterwards as long as your polite and professional most companies are very obliging. dont forget about confrences and compitions too.

have you checked out the website it has some good stuff also : http://www.fbla-pbl.org/

how do the competitions work? I tried the website but did not find too much info about them

Okay. I'll be honest with you...the competitions are tests. Literally you go in a room and mark a scantron based on different subjects. Marketing, etc. There is also mock interview competitions, and things like that. The state conference is always alot of fun and the main reason people join. And usually you shouldn't say that it's a 'test-taking' club, when trying to recruit members.

i just thought of an idea to help a local company market their business within the school or somewhere in the local area in return for some revenue that would all go towards our school. Any tips on how i can approach this idea? what types of businesses should i ask?

That's a really good idea. Okay go to your state FBLA website and you should find all the information you need. Including a chapter start-up packet and everything. Offically start the chapter, write by-laws, etc. and then write letters to businesses in your area. First ask places such as neighbors. Then ask places like Jamba Juice or places that have alot of teens go there.
