They wouldn't have let you in if you weren't prepared to do well. Enjoy the fact that you will be around very smart peers who you will draw from and relax and enjoy (OK, work really hard, too.)!

just make sure you don't screw up. milton admitted a new junior from albania...he was a top student at his former school but is now considering repeating 11th grade because he got mostly C's on his transcript. i, on the other hand, came to milton in 10th grade and while i expected prep school to be much more challenging, i never thought i would get so many B's on my report card. i just wish i had known about boarding school and applied for 9th grade instead

Get to know your house counselors. Establish some rules with your roommate at the very beginning. Don't use conference period just to go to Commons. Appreciate All School Meetings. Take frequent trips into Boston. Sign up for (at most) five clubs at the club fair, unless you want to be deluged with club information that you won't have time for for the rest of the year. Don't be discouraged when you get your first paper back. Take classes you can do well in (it sounds obvious, but some people are in way over their heads). Bring ample laundry money. Love your school.
Come senior year, you'll be crying your eyes out regretting that you ever have to leave Andover.

Gian: I know EXACTLY how you feel about applying for boarding school for 9th grade. If I had even known/thought about it a few months before I actually did, I might have been able to apply for 10th grade... but yeah not going to boarding school for this year has got to be one of the most regrettable mistakes of my life...especially considering where I'm from and my current school system. bleh.

Oh, sorry I had no words of wisdom to give you...all I can say is, everyone else will most likely be just as nervous as you, so you're not the only one!
I wish you the best of luck! I'm sure you're going to absolutely love it!

This thread is a little disturbing to me as a parent. My innocent daughter off to the slaughter? Does anyone at boarding school (honest question) ever relax long enough to enjoy the classes I'm drooling at that my 14 yo is choosing from? By Christmas break will she be a total mess because A's are all that matter?

Mom101 you only have to worry if your child is an insane overachiever. Pretty much everyone I met at school is an overachiever even if a lot of them deny being one. An overachiever to me is someone who dedicates himself to something, academics, sports, clubs, or something. Therefore, there is no negative connotation. However, if you are too obsessive then it could destroy you. Just relax and hope everything will fine.
