What do you guys think, would you/did you have preferred a single or to have a roomate?

Single, definitely. With a double, you won't be able to get much work done, if any at all even if your roommate is quiet. Unless your both very quiet. However, some prep schools don't give you a choice.

i'd prefer a single. i've gotten the chance to experience both since i was assigned to a single for the first semester and am now in a double for second semester. the biggest problem for me is compromising when to turn off the lights...my roommate for example would watch a movie in our room with his friends until 1 AM on a friday eve. and i think that my roommate gets annoyed when i get up at 7 in the morning and he doesn't wake up until 7:30...i try not to shuffle around too much and i don't use an alarm clock but i could imagine the noise being a nuisance.

Well, I s'pose being used to being in a double would make it easier to live in one...since you were used to being in a single it was probably tougher to adjust. I know one of my friends made the opposite transition and she felt, well, lonely...
