Someone told me this week that his sister is applying to colleges...but she is not calculating her GPA for the colleges. He said that many universities have their own methods of gpa or its equivalent. Is this true? I am just wondering, because my school does not use weighting, which could potentially be a problem since I;m taking a lot of honors classes next year. So do colleges use their own system or is there a uniform GPA?

Colleges often throw out fluff classes like art, shop, band, etc. and just calculate the GPA on the heavier classes like math and english. So you might have a high overall GPA, but when colleges look at it, it might not be as good as you think.

since when are art and band fluff classes? I find my most difficult class to be Comprehensive Theatre...and when I had a teacher...Chorus...Still an easy A though.
And yes, all colleges calculate the GPAs differently. Mostly core classes. (thank god, cuz i once got a B in PE!!!)
