YEAH, GET STARTED! They love to see well rounded, active students. DEF. start participating. It's like a major part of the HIGHSCHOOL experience. Have Fun

YOUR NOT DUMB
(*j/k)...you are kinda like me, most people are very active until their senior yr., where as i'am the opposite. I kinda escalated from somewhat active freshman, somewhat inactive sophomore, very active junior, extremely active senior.
set some goals, its a lot easier to get EC's done when you have a mission. for now GET IN AS MANY ACTIVITIES AS YOU CAN that way next year, you will know what you want to do.
GOOD LUCK

i do but it seems like no one has an opptimsitic view of the "IB" kids at our school so i just started telling people it was because it was good for college...*sigh* it did avoid random kids in the 10th grade class arguing with me lol

I DO COMMUNITY SERVICE B/C I LIKE TO HELP.
i know that i have to do community service for hrs but i finished my hrs b4 i started hs. now, i tutor because i LOVE teaching kids and seeing them learn makes me so happy. and i'm not being corny...i'm serious. the way i see it, i do what i like to do and if i get community service along w/ that, great...that's wonderful. it's not the hrs in the end. the college just wants atleast x amt of hours...not too hard. do what you like!
asianboy: alrite. what do you like to do? poli sci kid? engineering freak? math geek? if i were you, i'd start now...every passion has an application. you just have to get out there and start it. good luck =).
btw, what ARE your interests?

yeah, if you load up on every EC or comm.serv. all in the senior year, colleges will take it as if you are just doing them before admissions rolls around. but, now that you only have the senior year to do after schhool activites, you better get extremely dedicated to them and devote a lot of time to them

kooaznboi: go for it! go for an area that isn't as rich because they need your help. i go to a place that is like the "ghettos" of my area and literally, the library is like the size of two classrooms put together (give or take a room) but seriously, it's SO small and the little kids are so cute. and...yea *sigh* i'm such a dork.

Slight tangent here, but how bad does it look not having anything freshman year?
| By Wishful_Thinker (Wishful_Thinker) on Thursday, May 06, 2004 - 08:09 pm: Edit |
as long as you start picking things up, you should be fine. no one's going to discredit everything you have done because you didn't do anything freshman year. it's all cumulative. you have to make sure you don't give the adcoms enough reason to not accept you. so if you make up for it, you should be fine.
...i of course am not an expert but from what i read and my own sense, that is what i get out of it

Thank you Wishful, that was pretty much the impression I had (thank god!).

how many hours of community service should i have at the end of my junior year?
| By Magoo (Magoo) on Friday, May 21, 2004 - 09:48 pm: Edit |
there is no set amount...just do what comes naturally however, if you are just starting to get active i would suggest that you do as much as you can to get your feet wet, maybe you will discover a passion in something that you never knew you had.
Wishful thinker... i do my EC because i like to help people. i would be way to stressed out with all that i'm doing if there was no personal reward (other than college)
