Aren't y'all excited about prom?!!?!??! I ordered my dress already and it totaled to $ 256.00. I'll proabaly pay more to alter it later but whatever...it's worth while.
Who are you guys going with? How's your dressing-hunting goes? Let's share!

Failiure, that wasn't very nice. =(

Well I care about my overpriced gown and all that fun stuff, so I'll share with Xdtish. I am absolutely in love with my dress! It's a white strapless dress with all these pretty rhinestone designs, i could honestly get married in it. It cost $375...but hey it's my senior prom. I'm going with my boyfriend, surprise surprise. We're getting a stretch Expedition limo along w/ some other couples and we have all these free rooms at this sweet ass 5 star hotel bc some of our friends work there. I'm beyond excited.
By Xdtish (Xdtish) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 05:41 pm: Edit
Get your high gear off your behind.
Why shouldn't I gush and gossip about my 'overpriced gowns'. I worked my ass off for 4 years, college admission process is over, I'm admitted to one of the top school in the country, I worked and earned my money. I deserved this. So don't you sit there and try to take this away from me.
By Xdtish (Xdtish) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 05:44 pm: Edit
Thanx Fhmamii.
Nice dress, I can even picture, its going to look hot! Did you have to alter your dress, because I sure do and I'm not sure the cost of hiring a tailor. How much did you pay for the limo, b/c my friends and I are renting one, but I don't want to pay $100 for a frickin' ride.
By _Failure (_Failure) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 05:46 pm: Edit
I worked my ass off for four years, too. So what? Wasting money isn't a virtue.
Athlonmj: Sorry, I'm only nice when I need to be.

Hey, Failure. We know you're a hardass. When you step into a room, everyone gasps as they feel the cool wind of a true champion whistling through the awning behind you. With each step you take, the Earth trembles and sighs. Your word is philosophy; your judgement, law. You make grown men weep with your straightforward manner of presentation and unbridled viewpoints. You shall kneel for no man, bow to no leader, bend your will to none other than that of God himself. Your messageboard posts are trumpets of truth and wisdom that fall upon unhearing ears. Your fury rocks each pixel, your anger lashes out through every character! Each sentence is born anew in the fire of your terrible wrath.
I, for one, thank you for posting in this thread. Your opinions are like gold bullion, to be treasured, saved, and hopefully locked within the hulls of ships and then sunk to the deepest points of the ocean.
P.S. - Stop posting.

i'm going single and trying to start a trend because everyone at my school is completely stressed out trying to find dates. so me and 2 other friends are all going together, but as singles. well, one of my friends doesn't want a date, but she's taking her ex-boyfriend because she doesn't want him to have a date and once we get there, he'll be ditched.
anyway, since we're all really cheap, we're going to take BART to San Francisco and BART back, and then stay at a hotel suite (since we'll have saved lots of money by not getting a limo), watch movies on pay-per-view and order lots of room service.
it'll be awesome.

Actually we live in Ohio, I got accepted to Cornell but decided after we started to date that I wouldn't go, and I couldnt afford it. I got my financial aid package and that confirmed that I couldn't afford it. So I am going to University of Dayton. She's gonna go to a community college for financial reasons but its like 5 minutes from UD and she's gonna be living probably about 20 minutes from my house. So its not a big deal. She's doing a 2 year and im doing a 3 just because I have so many college credits. But I definately intend on being with her, so its gonna be cool.
yeah thats me in the picture, my friend owns some swords and I want to own some, and we were going to take fencing but never did. I just thought it would be cool for my senior pic. The photographer sucked though and it didnt turn out [we had one where we were fighting each other, but the glare from the sun was horrid]
By Xdtish (Xdtish) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 08:39 pm: Edit
Don't stay for relationship reasons. I'm not judging and I know you care about her. But dude, you got in Cornell. C'mon! What if you two break up somewhere down the road?!?! Then you'll regret that you have missed out the chance of attending an Ivy League school. But if you're staying b/c of money issues, then I'm sorry. I hope whatever school you planning to attend works out for ya. :-)
How's Dayton, Ohion? I've never been there. (as you can tell, I'm from New York City) Not to sound estpuida, but are there race cars tournament...?

Dayton is pretty boring for the most part, but being with good people makes it fun. Good theme parks in Ohio though. Never heard of any race car tournaments. But I am a huge movie nerd and my gf and I are going about 2 hours north this summer to the prison where Shawshank Redemption was filmed at for a tour.

Can't go because of National Decathlon.
Boise vs. Prom? I chose Boise... although 1/3 of our team chose to come home early and skip the free day and awards banquet.
Shhh, you're not ugly. Random question: are you the former Minibrit from CC? I'm just basing that on your sn.
Random point: It's rather interesting that people talk about "deserving" this... I've heard this opinion from many people, not just Xd on this thread. I've found that my life is far simpler whenever I don't "deserve" anything but rather just "do" things. Happier, too. But that may just be me.

Im going with my bf who Ive been going out with a year and 6 months. I got my dress in Paris! Its purple with these little diamond things on the side, and its one of those dresses that starts from your chest down (know what Im talking about? Those strapless ones?) My bf said he'll wear a suit with a purple tie to match my dress, woohoo, color coordinated! His mom is getting a strech limo just for me and him, which I honestly dont want since its sorta like showing off to my other friends (who are getting there with car rides driven by their parents since none of us have licenses), and here in Belgium, we dont really do that... Someone said that we'll spend the remaining night downtown and party, woohoo! Ill snooze in some hotel room with my bf to finish the night, hehehehe

XDtish....I am curious after looking over NYU's collage what top college you have been admitted to? Are you originally from NYC?.... because you seeming to be talking with a southern accent. Also, I've always sort of wondered about this.....the word is freaking, you said freakin'. So, what's the point in abbreviating the word if you use the same amount of key strokes? Are you trying to sound less intelligent? Not that I'm calling you unintelligent. Or that I think using the word 'freaking' ever sounds intelligent...But anyway, as I said, I've just always wondered.......
I would like to add one of your quotes to the collage: "My after-party is in NYC. New York is neat! You meet different people. Its very diverse. I don't know if I can say the same about Dayton. (No offensive)"
No OFFENSE, but this statement wasn't even addressed to me, and I found it offensive.
On a slightly different note.....
I get really annoyed (I guess its one of my pet peeves) when people imply that someone is a bad person for spending a lot of money on something that isn't a necessity. I just want to make a big sign that says: MYOB!!! PS: It's called capitalism you damn communist!! Okay...just kidding about the communist part, but you get the idea.
By Ecismyhome (Ecismyhome) on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 01:49 pm: Edit
Taylor,
Please look up the definition of capitalism. It is not "spending a lot of money on something that isn't a necessity." This quote is, however, nearly the dictionary definition of something else - "wastefulness."
In addition, there is nothing wrong with the theory of communism. Please don't stigmatise theories because of their misguided histories.

wow... ok ANYWAY, back to prom...
is anyone else here planning theirs? I’m senior class president so it’s all on me… ugh. i've been in my leadership class for four years and have basically been raising money the entire time for this one night. However, we're having it in one of the nicest hotels in San Francisco (The Westin St. Francis – it’s a state monument!)… I’m actually really excited for that. And 19 of my friends and I are getting a stretch Hummer limo – SOOO stoked! But besides that, all the planning is so stressful. Prom is incredibly expensive. Anyone else dealing with this craziness?
By Nyu2010 (Nyu2010) on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 05:03 pm: Edit
Yes.
By Babygurl89919 (Babygurl89919) on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 05:09 pm: Edit
Yes, I am questioning your credibility. I am not aware of any top college that accepts people who have lived in the US for a substantial amount of time (I'm assuming you have since you've lived in both NYC and the south. I could very well be wrong.) and cannot properly speak english.
And I sincerely wonder about the motive behind your abbreviations....hoping for an answer to my questions....doubting i will receive one...
Also, in an effort not to appear hypocritical....I realize that in my post above I made a mistake...I meant to say seem, not seeming.
"Please work on your witty repartee, moron."
Yes, that did help. It provided me, once again, with glaring evidence of your poor grammar skills. Repartee means a swift, witty reply. Therefore, to say "witty repartee" is a double negative.
Ecismyhome, please look up the definition of wastefulness. If a girl thoughtfully and carefully picks out her dress (which 99% of girls do) she can spend any amount of money her dress and it cannot be considered wasteful.
By Bullseye11 (Bullseye11) on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 05:30 pm: Edit
Ok...here's my deal. Prom is on May 7th, then there's saturday, and my birthday is May 9th...then there's the Bio AP May 10th. This means...I'm not going to prom. Hell, i'm gonna be 18, think I'll use that freedom instead. I think it's scerewed up that I'm the only one who didn't get into freakin' GPPA at UIC that I know, and that UMKC is mad expensive and most colleges don't like me that much and that I have still yet to hear from my number one school. Bottom line, there's no solace that Prom can offer me. Only an empty wallet and crushed aspirations.

Xdtish's version of prom:
I put my hand up on your hip, when I dip, you dip, we dip. I know you like it, so don't try to fight it. Let me see your back, maaan I like that. We can get down low and rolll it. Ride this thing like a rodeo. Slip that money!

I think Freshman and Senior year are the optimal prom going years. Think about it- by the time you're a Junior, prom occurs smack in the middle of AP/Exam season, and you're so tired from doing work all year, and the novelty of prom probably will have worn off. On the other hand, if prom was a freshman thing, then we can all go traipsy-ing off with hot older guys who ask us, we'll be carefree and excited, and we'll actually have time to care and gush and be excited about our dresses and stuff. The novelty just wears off when you get older. I've been reading the 17/teen/u name it prom issues since i've was 11, but the past year u mention prom and i'm like groan...another thing to fit in my crazy schedual. Damn growing old.

My senior prom is on May 31st. Yes memorial day. The juniors took the june date because the june date had a larger ballroom [junior class has 100 more people than any other class in my school] I'm not as excited for the prom as last year. I guess it's more of a "been there, done that" sort of thing. The novelty is just lost now. Beileve it or not, my last year's prom dress was a little over $6. No i did not wear a paper bag to school. I bought the dress a mere 3 weeks b4 the prom and there was a big sale at filene's basement where it was 75% off a price that was already cut down a bunch of times. Since this prom is going to be my senior one, i've been extra picky about what dress i want. And the ones i do like, i have trouble filling in on the top because of my lack of ..umm..chest area. and gotta find directions on how to do those electric slide moves and the hustle and brush up on my macarena moves or i won't be able to do those dances when the song comes up. so that's my little bit on how prom is going on with me! hope you guys have fun with yoru proms!

Ahh, prom. I went to Homecoming last year, it was fun. Then I went to Prom last year, it was kinda awkward and not a ton of fun. This year, instead of going to Homecoming, me and 7 friends (1 guy and 6 girls
) got all dressed up and pretty, and went to this awesome Murder Mystery Dinner theater where we got a great meal and there was a hilarious show. That night we kept looking at our watches and saying "Wow...those people at Homecoming still have (insert number) hours left of listening to bad music" :P So, this year for Prom, me and a bunch of friends are getting all dressed up, going to dinner, then to this new play that opened in town, and then we're renting a MOONWALK (yes, those awesome bouncy things at fairs) and bouncing in it all night, in awesome prom dresses
It's going to be so awesome, and cheaper, than prom. Yay.
