please be honest.

HOW MATURE DO YOU THINK YOU ARE (relative, of course, to your age)? please provide an example and your age

By Haithman (Haithman) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 08:09 pm: Edit

15. When around teachers/adults I am overly mature and some people think I am much older than I am. I also looked up to my older brothers alot therefore I always tried to act older than I was..so I played video games sparingly, never really participated in those seemingly trivial games (Soccer all the way!) and always dressed older than my age. But at times when at home with family or out with my friends I do act relatively stupid at times and maybe you could characterize it as immature. In comparison to most people at school, I am years ahead.

I’m a junior who’s now 15 and will be turning 16 this May. My peers and friends have almost always been older than me, and I suppose that caused me to be more mature than most people my age. I’m the antithesis of the frivolous teenager stereotype; I’m extremely laid-back regardless of the circumstances, dress conservatively (or “adult-like”), am well-mannered, and hate doing anything playful. I’ve always despised sports and never was too obsessed with videogames or any other type of games.

I'm going around claiming I'm mature, yet my username is "Bananasrock"...

So you like the pic huh? lol

I am 14...and I think I'm pretty mature for my age, although it depends primarily on the situation that I'm in. In school, I am the smart geek and nerd types of person, one who always listens attentively in class, one who never gets herself into any kind of trouble. Well behaved...and often act like a "mother" to some friends. At home...well, there is another part of me. I jump-giggle-laugh-smirk-play around like a relentless monkey. I asked my dad once "Dad, how old do you think I am?" And he replied "3" And I know he wasn't joking then.

I do some stupid things, but overall, I would actually say around 19 or so.

I'm 17. When it comes to partying/doing drugs/drinking, all that crazy teenage stuff, I act like I'm everyone's mother because I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, act like a slut, etc. Basically, my friend's parents trust me a lot and are glad if I'm accompanying their daughter or son to some party because sadly I have the reputation of being the chaperone. Ugh. It sucks. But I'm just not into that sort of thing. Why can't people just accept the fact that you can still have a good time without getting so drunk you can't even remember what you did and how many people you made out with? It doesn't mean I'm uptight.
Anyway, I have my childish moments too. I love going to playgrounds and swinging. And i love doing cartwheels barefoot in the grass... and hula hooping. :P

Six!! I never pick up on hints people drop, I never know when to shut up, constant procrastinator, and I LOVE playgrounds and apple juice.

I'm 16, heading off to college, and am rather "collected" about the whole deal. I'm not too worried about leaving my family, but on the other hand, I'm not immature enough to celebrate it. In addition to that, throughout the application process, I received my two acceptances and my two rejections in much the same way, nothing too extreme or celebratory, while on the other hand, nothing too self-sympathetic. Every now and again I'll go to my dad's office parties (he works in a pretty well known law firm) or he will have some friends/co-workers come by our home and most every time his friends and he both comment on how well I communicate with older folks and how, as my dad puts it, well I "speak their language." In addition to that, I'd say I look a bit older than your average 16 year old.

i am 16 and very mature for someone my age. i don't cuss, i don't whine, i maintain my composure even when i'm very angry, i don't play video games, i clean my room, i think about the consequences before acting on something, i don't rebel against my parents, i volunteer to do house chores, i don't get involved in petty relationships, i know what i want to do with my life when i get older, i set my own curfew, i know myself well and not at all concerned about what others think of me or about what society thinks...basically, i abide, in every situation, by my strict definition of what's wrong and what's right.

By Shhh (Shhh) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 09:30 pm: Edit

I am very mature in that I dont need society to tell me what to think.

By Shhh (Shhh) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 09:33 pm: Edit

my mental age? I am constantly shocked at the immaturity of the adults i come across...so i dont think it has much to do with age...but from what I've seen...perhaps around 40...but then again Ive seen some pretty childish grown ups.

By Clickspring (Clickspring) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 09:46 pm: Edit

I do drugs, drink, swear, laugh loudly, stay out late, sleep around [before I met my boyfriend], dress to go out, put off work until after pleasure, disobey my parents, and lie to my family. I'm 19, but most people think I'm mature for my age too. It's too bad I still look like I'm 16!!!

By Princess_Banana (Princess_Banana) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 10:00 pm: Edit

Just cuz you don't do drugs or whatever does not mean you're mature.

By Gianscolere (Gianscolere) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 10:24 pm: Edit

in my opinion:

mature= ability to make wise decisions. to me, choosing not to do drugs is indeed a wise decision. according to my personal definition of "mature," someone could be 40 years of age but if the person still can't make wise choices, then he or she is not yet mature.

By Magoo (Magoo) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 10:37 pm: Edit

on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being amazingly immature and 10 being a very mature understanding responsible adult

i would have to give myself a range of 6-8 (9 and 10 are like parenthood) i say this because i take my responsiblities seriously yet i do have my moments when i can be child like (loud, impatient, etc.)...and i am 17 years old (18 in late august)

Clickspring, were you ostracised for having a boyfriend when your gender...?

On-topic: in general, I'd say I'm mature enough to have a lengthy conversation with an adult of above average intelligence.

By Tetsuiiaga (Tetsuiiaga) on Thursday, April 22, 2004 - 08:51 pm: Edit

well honestly its tough for anyone whose more mature than their peers. your stuck in the middle, too old for your friends and too young for people older than you. it kinda sucks. if it gets better in college i wouldnt know, i m not there quite yet, 2 months till i graduate, but 4 a freshman in my position it could look grim, and it could be tough. i feel like a 20 yr old in a 20 yr old body, but im actually 17. intresting huh. getting older doesnt always mean better times, just more responsibilities and ungrateful adults to deal with. well if u spend alot of time dwelling on it, how your so different from everyone else, itll kill u for sure, the best advice i could give anyone is keep yourself busy , focus on yourself and let god take care of the rest. best of luck to all you.
