Congrats.
I got my license in October, but I haven't driven a car since. Kind of a shame, isn't it?
By Yujin (Yujin) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 06:28 pm: Edit
That's not too bad.
I know many people who have had their license for a while yet can't drive due to the lack of a car.

I failed my road test. Too scared to take it again.
By Coeurdoux (Coeurdoux) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 06:32 pm: Edit
thanx guys, yeah that's usually is the case.
license no car, or car but no license.
By Coeurdoux (Coeurdoux) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 06:36 pm: Edit
first time I went, they told me that the back tire was balding. The 2nd time, I made 18 mistakes (15 is the limit)lol..man I'm horrible.
but when I took it on tuesday I passed with only 6 mistakes. So if I could do it, everybody could!
By Gianscolere (Gianscolere) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 06:39 pm: Edit
i'm not too concerned about getting my own driver's license. but i can imagine how it would feel to finally get one-
congratulations!
By Zephyrmaster (Zephyrmaster) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 06:45 pm: Edit
I can't afford a car or insurance, same w/ my parents, so I haven't driven since getting my license in the driving test! haha.
By Foundnemo (Foundnemo) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 06:57 pm: Edit
what what ... what's this limit on the mistake thing? They told me I didn't look both ways on a turn (but I DID) and they failed me on the spot.
By Gianscolere (Gianscolere) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 07:18 pm: Edit
if you looked both ways but the instructor claims that you did otherwise, you should stay true to your claim
By Coeurdoux (Coeurdoux) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 08:34 pm: Edit
Those were my mistakes. the examiner told me that I didn't look both ways and I got 13 wrong for just that. And I'm sure that I looked both ways. I mean you kinda have to look both ways when you're driving, come on now! And I heard that you have to 'exaggerate' when you do it and that's what I did and I passed.

I passesd last week, but today was the first time I drove by myself. It was SO much FUN! I love driving. Poo... to bad I have to be in by 9 and the SATS tomorrow or i'd be out there right now driving!!!
By Coeurdoux (Coeurdoux) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 09:54 pm: Edit
lucky you! I'll probably start driving by myself tomorrow. My mom worries too much about me driving. she's like, yea you could drive to church and that's it lol.
Good luck on your SAT tomorrow and congrats on your new status as a license owner!!

Heh. Sweet. As an 18-year-old who just took his 15-year-old (freshman) sister out for her first very first turn in the driver's seat (of his manual sports car), I speak for all such drivers when I say...
-good luck
-drive safely (i.e. not too quickly and not too slowly)
-use your turn signals ;)

Foundnemo-it's different for different states. One state may allow you to make a certain number of mistakes, and another may have a point system, where for every mistake you make they take off a certain number of points. I know in PA you're allowed to have 30 points taken off. Getting my license was such a great feeling. Congratulations!
By Silentsage (Silentsage) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 11:27 pm: Edit
Congrats Coeurdoux. I also passed my driving test (with exactly 15 mistakes, whew). Must have been exciting when you passed. Again, congrats and drive carefully.

LOL, man I envy you passers! I backed into a fire hydrant when I'd last taken the driver's test!
But congratulations nonetheless. Watch out for fire hydrants.

I took my driver's license test last summer, but since I don't live within the US right now (only visit during the summers), I'd only had about 15-20 hours total of driving before my test. I managed to pass with 4 points (1 mistake), the limit being 31.
By Fhmamii (Fhmamii) on Sunday, March 28, 2004 - 01:10 pm: Edit
I failed the road test the first time I took it because I drove right past the parallel parking area because I didn't see it...(despite the 4 large orange cones) haha I am the worst drive possible...I guess that's why I was voted "worst driver" in my class.
By Coeurdoux (Coeurdoux) on Sunday, March 28, 2004 - 08:39 pm: Edit
I didn't know they still does the test w/ the orange cones, all I know in California they test you in the regular road. How does it work w/ other states?

Ahh. I've failed three times. I live in PA. It's the stupid parallel parking. I can do it on the road, but there is this stupid course for the test and it really sucks. Plus, I'm driving a mini-van. Eh, it's not fun. I can't wait until I get my license. I REALLY can't wait.

I got my license almost a year ago, on my birthday. The road test is pretty easy here.
Incredible feeling, isn't it?

ha how cool that I got my first "almost grounded warning" from the rents because I came home at 9:08. (on a jr license in NYS you can only stay out till 9)
By Coeurdoux (Coeurdoux) on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 - 10:05 pm: Edit
anyone from california? if you're under 18, are you allowed to take your younger sibling as a passenger?
By Themockery (Themockery) on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 - 10:31 pm: Edit
In California you have to wait until you've had your license for 6 months to drive anyone under a certain age (I can't remember if it's 25, 21, or 18) without an adult in the car. Check the driver's manual

Congrats! I didn't get mine right away either - I failed the driving test the first time because I didn't fully stop at the stop sign on the course (they say they get most people there!!). D'oh!
Watch out for those stop signs!!
By Heartsofpaper (Heartsofpaper) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 05:24 am: Edit
took me two tries too.
first try one of my tires went a little bit over the curb as i pulled out of the parking lot. so i was failed immediately and they scribbled down "collision with object" or some idiot thing like that as the reason for failing me. lame.
so don't do what i did.
and yeah, make full stops at stop signs, keep within the speed limits, and look around a lot, because that makes it look like you're alert. use your turn signal, check your blind spots when changing lanes, etc. it's pretty easy because you're mostly in residential areas.
oh and DON'T attempt conversation with your tester at all. they're generally unfriendly people.
By Benzo415 (Benzo415) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 04:27 pm: Edit
"oh and DON'T attempt conversation with your tester at all. they're generally unfriendly people."
Not true. My Driver Ed teacher was awesome, he and I talked sports all the time.
Parallel parking is the only really tough part, but if you just practice it a few times before the test then you'll do fine. I was a late starter though. I had my permit for almost 2 years before I got my license.
By Coeurdoux (Coeurdoux) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 01:48 am: Edit
I think heartsofpaper meant the Examiner not the Driver Ed teacher. Yea my driver's ed teacher was really cool trying to talk to me n stuff to calm me down, but I know deep down inside, he's freakin scared!
