It's admirable that many of you have such focus and dedication- but it seems like if you care too much about which college will accept you, you can lose the point of education and even just living- seriously. fyi- my uncle went to a top ivy league school and my parents didnt, but my parents are much more well off than he is.Our good friend who went to an average state school is much more well off than we are, because of hard work and luck. It doesnt matter in general as some of you think it is. Its okay to want to get to a good college, but I just dont understand why people would want to sacrifice their lifestyles to fit someone else's credentials- I would prefer being the best I can be for myself instead of trying to mold myself into a walking paper 2D ideal doll..

Totally! Next year, I want to do a science fair project on whether the process of getting good grades has a similar effect on the brain to drugs, or a similarity to anorexia. Wish me luck figuring out how. :P
The day after I joined this board, I was talking to my friend Mio, who's only lived here for two years but has great spoken English and from what she writes you'd NEVER notice. She's taking the two APs available next year (so am I), and she was worried because she wasn't as fast of a reader as everyone else and she's always the last one finished on our science tests (she gets straight As), and I don't know, I told her it would be okay, if she could learn this much in 2 years she could do completely anything, and we planned out the study-parties we'd have before each big test and all, and it felt so friendly and secret and wonderful to know that we'd have a group of like ten people studying with us and making sure we were all ok and stuff...I've become sort of competitive in some classes and it was the polar opposite of that...I just got the feeling, even if I fail everything, it would be nothing compared to the people I've known. (just had to get that off my chest)

That sounds like a great project.. props! Maybe you could interview "anonymous" people from different schools? Ones who do do this and ones who dont.. and then maybe google it and try to find someone's email- like a professor or psychologist- who could give you some info. If only I could find a study group like yours!
