Anyone??? I hear people say that their high school sucks because it offers little/no AP courses, but that's not what makes a school crappy. I hear schools report the percentage of their graduates that go on to a four-year. My school reports the percentage that manages to graduate, about 50%...hehehe...

Oh well, it hasn't hurt me so far in admissions.

Me, my school is terrible is terms of people caring about academics. Seems like only 10 people in the entire school of 1200 care. Only about 50% go to 4-year I would say. We have alot of AP's tho, I will manage to graduate with 9, which is ironic considering the calibur of the school.

ME!! My highschool offers TWO AP classes, and those classes are AP US History and AP English IV...so you can only take one your junior year and one your senior year, and thats if you are at the top-tier of my school's "advanced" track...I hope it doesn't affect me during admissions...

How about my school doesn't offer ANY AP classes, and we have the worst reputation in the county. Personally I wouldn't say it's a "crappy" school though. About 70% go to a 4 year college, and the rest either go to a community college, trade school, or take a year off (which for some people isn't a bad idea).

I go to school in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Every high school in the county has AT LEAST 700 kids to many. Are school has about 2300 kids now, and we're getting 1000 freshmen next year, yet we're considered one of the smaller schools. The larger schools can have about 4000.

My school seems to love student-teachers. I have 4 of them right now. These people are still in college and running the classes, and some of them teach better than the actual teacher. The counselors are terrible.

Since Georgia has the HOPE scholarship (any student who has a B average can go to school free in GA), the counselors seem to think that no one has anyone aspiration of leaving the state. When I talked them about college, they shoved facts about Georgia Tech and University of Georgia down my throat.
My class is not the brightest either. It's bad. I slacked off 1st semester and only got a 90 GPA, but out of 700 kids, I was still in the top 10%.

i posted this on the "how is this possible?" thread but i guess i can post it here too:

i would definitely say my school is well below average. its an inner-city school. at my school, there are 3000 students and the average gpa is 1.73. most of the students are failing at least one class or another. the SAT average is around 700 and there are about 45-50 kids per class. i think only about 3-5% of the kids actually go to college. kids bring knives and things like that to school and sometimes teachers find knives lying around on the floor and they just stick them in their pockets and keep them but theyve done that less after one of the teachers slipped on a piece of paper last year and had a knife in his pocket and it went through his thigh and cut up half his muscles. kids throw other kids like incoming freshman down the stairs on a regular basis and the teachers dont seem to pay any attention and just walk right by. luckily i only got thrown down the stairs once, and that was in 9th grade during the first coupla weeks of school. i only got a broken collarbone, coupla broken ribs, and a broken wrist. this one kid last week was paralyzed for life after his neck snapped because he landed wrong. last week my physics teacher threw one of the kids onto the ground so he had to go to the hospital immediately because he ripped one of those desks that are built into the ground out. (half of them have been ripped out already and sometimes they're just lying randomly around in the hallway and even outside the school sometimes so in a lot of our classes the people who actually want to learn just sit on the ground and listen to the teacher's 2-minute lesson...literally) last year, three kids were shot with guns brought in by other kids, no one killed though. there is previously chewed gum on all the walls and all over the floor. last year, one of the ceilings broke during class and the teacher got soaked! so we all ran out of the room and they later found out that water in one of the water pipes frozen and the pipe burst. had needless to say, we have no AP or Honors courses. the teachers spend most of the time just trying to keep all the students under control. hardly anyone brings backpacks and we used to have a computer lab but all the computers were either stole or thrown out the window and fell three stories below. i think its safe to say that our school is terrible.

My school has five AP's, and I will have taken four of them. (As many as they would let me) It's still an ok school, though.

Evrythingonebad- Has any legal action been taken against the people who are bringing knives and seriously hurting students? Because wow, that sounds very extreme. Isn't there some law that forbids that? Because there's no way that some of the things you're mentioning can be legal.

My School offers 14 AP Classes and on average about 75% go to a 4 year college. Compared to graduation rates in nyc.. Forest Hills HS has about 82% while many inner city schools avg around 50% or less. Its not the best school in new york city but it has a good reputation and its pretty safe. I was zoned for this HS and it was easier for me to go there. I got into Cardozo.. but the commute was too much to handle.

Immaculate Heart Academy despite forcing us to dish out $8,200 is SO CRAPPY! I believe we have a total of 5 AP courses most of wish cannot be taken until senior year when the classes become electives not requisites. Also in terms of elective our schools offers a total of maybe, MAYBE 20, of which maybe 5 or 6 are geared towards the arts, my area. There is one music elective for the entire 4 years of high school. Believe me when I say my school is crappy and I have NO idea where my money goes to!

I feel I do go to a crappy school, make that a crappy catholic all-girls school(fun...not)

Lets see... for the class of 2003, 56% went to a 4-year. They considered that a "record-breaking year" lol. I was in the top 10% of SAT scores for my class. I only pulled off an 1140! I'm predicting about 40% will go to a 4 year out of my class. There are only 4 AP classes availiable and they are AP Spanish, AP French, AP Art, AP Calc. Oh the many selections!

It's in a fairly bad neighborhood, and isn't really known for anything special.

i think my school has...40% each year that decides to go to college at all and of those 40%...50% go to this local community college. in addition...our school offers just 3 AP courses. and i think theres like 4 kids (give or take some) every year that score over a 1300 on their SATs. lol <3 to Crestwood High School

I went to a "bad" high school. It's a rural high school, within the next 3 years it will no longer exist. My graduating class was 26, the largest in the school.

My ACT was 29, the highest in 8 years (I didn't study). The record high was 34, by a certified genius (she didn't study either).

My school is the tri-county ship in for the LD and BD kids.

The average ACT is about a 17.

6 girls will get pregnant and drop out per class. Except the class under me, it only has 3 girls.

There are no APs and no Honor courses. The best you can do is start taking French your sophomore year, because we all know that you can get into U of I with 2 years of forgein language and a 17 ACT. (note sarcasm)

About half go on to college.

Because it's a rural school, guys bring their hunting rifles to school and leave them in the back of their truck. Fun times for when it's drug inspection day.

It's not legal I guess but no one around here really cares much since it all happens so often. Oh well, only one more year of this.

Well, at least I'm not as alone as I assumed I was.

My child's school currently has about 570 seniors (the number keeps dropping) and on a report her GC filled out, she stated about 25% will go to a 4 year college, maybe 50% will go to a 2 year.
