Is graduating in the top 10% of a graduating class an important facotr in college acceptance? If so, how importance is it?

Really important.

Rank is important but not as important as gpa and test scores. A lot of high schools don't do rank anymore, and others calculate it differently, so it's becoming less important to some colleges. Most important is usually your marks and how rigorous your courses were.

well, GPA is only really important in comparison to others at your school, since there is far more variation in the calculation of that than the rank.

Hey guys, I'm new here and really am impressed by what you guys've been talking so far!!!
Ok,I'm from Vietnam and this is my second year at the States. I'm currently enrolled in a private boarding school in GA, (well, I feel bad to mention the name since I don't think my school is any popular compared to the ones I've seen posted on here!) Anyways, I'm a little bit concerned with my SAT scores since I'm now a junior. It's actually relatively low (1150)took it in sophomore year,
The thing is I have a 4.2 GPA. And I have to admit I'm taking all kind of rigorous classes (AP French Literature, AP Environmental Science, Precalculus Honors, English Honors, Modern World History, ARt 2) and working really hard this year. Even though my school isn't exactly reputabble, it's actually very challenging, especially in those classes that I've chosen...
Well, So, Sorry, made this so long, but I'm not sure if the big-named colleges will automatically scratch off my name since I'm such a low scorer? what do you guys think? I'd greatly appreciate any inputs...
PS: I'm taking SAT this coming 27th... FREAKING OUT!!

If your school does rank, being in the top 10% means a lot.

no they wont automatically cross your name off but definitely try to pull it up to at least 1350+ if you want a good shot. it also depends what you consider "big-name".
