Hi, I am considering to apply HSHSP at Michigan State U. and Columbia Honors Science Program. They looks good but HSHSP will take all my summer and Columbia program also will takes my all Saturday. Is there somebody who takes those Programs? Especially, I am worry if HSHSP will provide really good internship.

Remember that Columbia SHP is during the school year, not the summer. I took the Columbia exam last year as a freshman, didn't qualify but most of the kids who don't skip sciences normally don't qual as freshmen. The exam has earthscience, chem, bio, and physics, so it does help if you've been exposed to all of the subjects. Of course, there are some kids who go to schools where they let you take more sciences earlier, and they can get in as freshman, but yeah...people who are taking columbia shp that i know like it alot.

Yeah, SHP is pretty good, if only for your college app. Thats not to say the classes aren't good- some are, some aren't. Take the more hands ones or the ones you wouldn't mind listening to some guy talk about for 2 and a half hours. Be warned though- the advanced physics or math courses don't 'require' you to know calc or AP physics but since most of the kids in SHP are born knowing those two subjects, the instructor usually goes ahead and assumes everyone knows it (after asking and having nearly everyone put up their hands - hmm, maybe they should ask who hasn't taken it).

HSHSP is a fantastic program. I went summer 2003, and I am applying for this summer as well. Myself and my partner were Fourth Place in the Siemens-Westinghouse Competition for the Team Division. We won $33,000 in scholarship money.
Now, that doesnt happen often or every eyear, but everyone at the program has hand on experience with a professor or post-doc or grad student in a real lab, doing a real and substantial form of research while having a great time. The experience is priceless.
