I got selected to go to the Hugh O' Brien Youth Leadership Camp for 3 or 4 days over the summer from my school. Is this prestigious at all or is it just something that anyone goes to and just a waste of time...?

I think its prestigious because I had to write an essay and get chosen by my guidance couselor. I was commpeting against other sophomores. Only one sophomore was chosen to attend. But this also went along with my grades and my activities. I hope this helps.

so did I, but I found out about on the last day you could apply and did the essay during computer programming.

well if it's free, go! why are you going to summer school anyway?

HOBY is a nice program but depending on your high school might not be too impressive. Every highschool chooses someone to attend the program. If you come from a small class of say 60, then your chances were pretty good. If you come from a class of 2000, as my friend did, its pretty nice. All the same my friend had an absolutely incredible experience and I definitely think you should go. We highschoolers need to start doing things for ourselves rather than for our college resumes.

I'm going to HOBY this summer, too. As far as prestige, I don't really know. But like sopranosweety6 said, there are somethings we should do for reasons other than our resumes. My friend went last summer and had a great time and really learned a lot, and it meant a lot more to her than just being another activity to list on an application.

its not very prestigious, it may be fun at the end, but in college apps-terms..it wont be any use

is there any advantage? i've seen people put it in their applications and stuff and people say how they have gone up to national and whatnot...how does that happen? i just got this form for a 4-day HOBY thing in florida... worth my time?
